Part of the crew that came to help us place flags at Oak Hill Cemetery for Memorial Day. Candy Simms won the QoH on 6 Sept 2024. Bartender Olivia Banks and Post Commander Sheri Moore in photo also. Congrats Candy!!! Current Dept Surgeon Charles Bush was also our Post Commander a few years ago. During his tenure as Post Commander, he was instrumental in working with a local Eagle Scout to get our familiar 'flag box' put in place in front of the Post. It was looking a bit sad, so our outstanding House Committee Chair, Ben Seal, gave it a face lift and it turned out beautifully. We took the opportunity on Friday to show it off to Charles and based on his smile, I believe he is happy with the outcome. A crew of 14 Post and Auxiliary members worked under the guidance of the NPS rangers to clear the brush that has overgrown some of the Civil War earthworks. We worked on one section by clearing of woody vegetation at the East Face of Mule Shoe Salient where there is a large network of earthworks that are difficult to access with equipment and must be cleared by hand. Much of the woody growth there is 3 or more years old, primarily small oaks, sweetgum, pine, etc. They are head-high, on average, with stems as thick as 2-3 This is our group of Post & Auxiliary volunteers before the dirty work of brush cleaning began.
