A crew of 14 Post and Auxiliary members worked under the guidance of the NPS rangers to clear the brush that has overgrown some of the Civil War earthworks. We worked on one section by clearing of woody vegetation at the East Face of Mule Shoe Salient where there is a large network of earthworks that are difficult to access with equipment and must be cleared by hand. Much of the woody growth there is 3 or more years old, primarily small oaks, sweetgum, pine, etc. They are head-high, on average, with stems as thick as 2-3 This is our group of Post & Auxiliary volunteers before the dirty work of brush cleaning began.
